Team News: Richard Hepworth re-signs for 2017
The latest news on the team for 2017 is that Richard Hepworth has re-signed for the team for 2017.
Team owner, Cherie Pridham, is delighted to have Richard back in the team colours. “Richard knows the UK scene inside out and he’s a great lad as well. Richard is not just very experienced but calm as well and a great teammate for the younger riders. We gave Richard the opportunity to do some different races like the Tour of Normandie in France and it was fantastic to see him get round that tough race.”
Richard meanwhile, says it’s fantastic to be back in the team’s colours. “I think I did a good job last year for Chez and the team and I’m glad to be back for 2017. I’m looking forward to another bash at the Tour de Yorkshire” he added.
“The second stage goes past my school, on part of the chaingang route and up past my parents house, finally finishing not far from where I train and live now. It doesn’t get better than that for a bike rider”.
Looking back at the 2016 season, Richard explained that he enjoyed the Elite Criterium series the most. “I was on form, I rode well and we all enjoyed the success of winning the series as a team (Seb Mora).”
Asked what his toughest moment of the season was, Richard replies “Stage 1 of the Tour De Yorkshire. I punctured at the bottom of the climb Greenhow Hill. I got a wheel but it was game over, you couldn’t puncture in a worse spot! Block headwind, rain and sleet, 40 miles to the finish and completely on my own. I rode as hard as I could and after about 30 minutes caught two Belgians and Graham Briggs who had a team car with them. The four of us pressed on to the finish. I was completely dead on my feet that evening”.
With the winter now well and truly upon us, Richard says his training has been spent at the gym, on the mountain bike, the turbo and doing longer road rides. “After negating the Xmas festivities without putting 5kg on, I will start heading off to sunnier climbs to do some bigger training blocks and also focus more on rest and recovery” he says.
Finally, he says a team highlight has to be Sebastian Mora winning the Elite series at Colne. “A lot of hard effort went into helping with that win and it was good for all of us to stand on the podium with Sebastian”. Richard adds that when it comes to personal highlights, winning the Drummond Trophy and Clitheroe GP were both very enjoyable!”
Good luck to Richard in 2017!
